Situated in Parañaque City, The Westin Manila Bayshore is located in Manila’s Entertainment City, in Resorts World Bayshore. Divided into 16 districts, Manila is full of history and culture. Take a ride in a horse-drawn carriage along the promenade in the oldest part of the city—Intramuros, also known as the Walled City. Located on the southern banks of the Pasig River, it was previously the seat of the Spanish government during colonial times. It is full of historic buildings, including the famed citadel Fort Santiago and the city’s oldest stone church, San Agustin, built in 1606. In addition to the church’s magnificently carved door, Baroque pulpit, and 18th-century pipe organ, its monastery contains paintings of saints and other religious relics. Intramuros is also home to numerous art galleries, shops, restaurants, and performing venues.
Stroll around another one of Manila’s top tourist attractions, Rizal Park. Also called Luneta Park, it is home to numerous artifacts at the National Museum of the Philippines. Built in 1750, Malacanang Palace is the residence and workplace of the Filipino president. Manila also has one of the world’s largest Chinatowns. Established in 1594 in the enclave Binondo, this lively area is filled with shops and restaurants offering a wide range of cuisine.
The Philippines is particularly famous for its abaca (Manila hemp) handicrafts, including bags, lamps, and baskets. Other traditional handicrafts include wood, rattan, leather and bamboo items, and coconut-shell crafts. Sample some indigenous cuisine, including Filipino roast chicken (lechon isanal), roast pork (lechon liempo), and halo-halo, a popular dessert made with shaved ice, evaporated milk, boiled sweet beans, and fruit.
